Commas

Comma

Use a comma when listing things.

Eg. I ate pizza, chips, beans and ice cream.

Use a comma to insert a point.

Eg. Harley, who was good at English, often came to after school catch up.

Here the sentence makes sense as ‘Harley often came to after school catch up’ but we have added the extra information in the commas of ‘who was good at English’ to inform the reader of some extra information.

You can also insert a comma where there would be a pause in the sentence or to separate two clauses.

Eg. I cut down all of the trees, that were over six feet tall.

Here we are saying that all of the trees that were cut down were over six feet tall. Without the comma if you read it without the pause it sounds as if I cut down only the trees that were over six feet and left the rest.
