Connectives

Connectives join together sentences or clauses

Below is an excerpt of a letter with connectives highlighted in bold type.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am very concerned that the legal age for consuming alcohol has been lowered to fifteen as this is wholly irresponsible and will lead to more crime and anti social behaviour.

Despite your assurances that this will prevent children drinking at a younger age as the taboo has gone, I believe this will, in fact, only increase the drinking levels.

I have read that in recent years the number of under age drinkers has reduced, however I believe that this is not the case as I think children are obtaining alcohol unofficially through their older friends supplying it. Furthermore I believe that legalising alcohol at such as young age is sending out a negative message to the younger generation and consequently more children are going to be exposed to the risks of alcohol related deaths and injuries.

Whatever the reason for this law to be changed, I urge you to reconsider as it is irresponsible and dangerous.
